Financial responsibility

We must excel in our work to do good – that’s why business profitability is also important to us.

Social responsibility is our cornerstone. Since 1969, the Finnish Public Health Association has supported the health and well-being of Finns through the work of its four member organizations.

Financial responsibility is our foundation. We are a financially stable group and continuously ensure our competitiveness. Financial responsibility for us means securing the economic well-being of our employees, customers, stakeholders, and member organizations. The role of our key people is to ensure profitable operations in the long term.

Environmental responsibility

Environmental responsibility is our passion. We are aware of our environmental impact and take it into account in all our operations. Our goal is to reduce environmental strain by systematically increasing the use of organic products and being a pioneer in sustainable development choices. Increasing the use of organic products in all our units is part of our strategy.

We constantly strive to reduce food waste, and pre-calculation and forecasting are crucial in our restaurants. We also sell surplus food after lunch hours.

In our kitchens, we sort all waste types where possible (porcelain, energy, metal, glass, cardboard, newspaper, plastic, mixed waste, bio-waste, and hazardous waste). We monitor energy usage, keep unnecessary equipment turned off in the kitchen, and aim to minimize water consumption.

We use the Ekokompassi environmental management system.

The certified environmental management system supports the concrete development of organizational operations. Ekokompassi is a systematic approach to environmental management.

The goal of Ekokompassi is to improve the state of the environment and guarantee customers the most environmentally friendly services. With the Ekokompassi system, we aim to direct our procurement processes toward more environmentally friendly options, improve material efficiency in product development, manufacturing, and service processes, and train our staff in these processes to minimize our carbon footprint.

Use of organic products in our restaurants

Increasing the use of organic products in all our units is part of our operations. We are part of the “Portaat Luomuun” (Steps to Organic) program and are also members of Pro Luomu.

The “Portaat Luomuun” program is a tool for professional kitchens, offering a systematic process to increase the use of organic products and develop sustainable practices in the kitchen. The program guides responsible procurement decisions, helps communicate about organic products accurately and reliably, and provides informational materials while helping to find suitable organic products and the right partners.

Pro Luomu promotes the development and growth of the organic sector in Finland. The association’s approximately 70 member organizations represent the entire food chain, from organic producers to food companies and trade. Kanresta is one of the first restaurant industry companies to join the association.

Social responsibility

Social responsibility is our core value. We are a responsible employer and always comply with regulations, laws, and decrees. We take care of our employees’ well-being, and employee satisfaction is high; according to our latest measurement, our eNPS score was 46. Employees enjoy working with us, and the longest employment relationships have lasted over 20 years.

Our procurement strategy aims to source responsibly and efficiently. We use raw materials from small farms and local producers whenever possible to promote regional food production and well-being.

We also care about the people in our partner organizations. Our operating model enables very close cooperation, with a focus on advancing the business of our partners. We are happy to help solve business challenges and develop operations together.
